Genesis

The book of beginnings. It opens with the making of the world and ends with one family in Egypt, and along the way it tells you where people, languages, nations and promises came from. Most of it follows four generations of one household (Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Joseph) through famines, family quarrels, births, burials and moves from place to place.
