Using the site

The Plain Bible is free to read. No account is required to read scripture, search it, follow a reading plan, or follow a life through the Bible. You may link to any page, quote from it, and use it in teaching, study or worship.

Where the text comes from

The scripture is the King James Version of 1769, which is in the public domain in the United States. You may do as you like with it; it does not belong to us.

The plain-English reading beside it is an original work created for this site. It is not a translation from Hebrew, Aramaic or Greek, and it is not offered as one. It was written to be understood by readers at four different ages, and it is checked against both the King James and a modern public-domain translation for faithfulness to what the source says. It may still contain mistakes. If you find one, tell us and we will fix it.

Use the plain readings freely for personal study, teaching, church use and quotation. Please do not republish them wholesale as your own work or sell them.

What this site is not

This is not a commentary and does not tell you what any passage means for you. The notes explain language, never doctrine. Nothing here is theological, pastoral, legal, medical or financial advice, and no part of it is a substitute for a translation made from the original languages by scholars.

Accounts

An account, created by signing in with Google, is needed only to highlight verses and to join shared reading sessions. You are responsible for the Google account you sign in with. You may ask us to delete your account and everything stored against it at any time, by writing to hello@theplainbible.com.

We may suspend an account that is being used to disrupt other readers, to break the law, or to attack the service.

Shared reading sessions

A reading session is a room you share with people you invite by giving them its code. Anyone holding the code can join, so treat the code as you would the address of a meeting.

If a session carries live voice, that audio passes between participants and is not recorded by us. What is said in a session is the responsibility of whoever says it. Do not use a session to harass anyone.

No warranty

This site is provided as it is, without warranty of any kind. It is one person's work, offered freely. It may be unavailable, it may contain errors, and features may change or be withdrawn. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of it.

Changes

These terms may change. The date at the top will change with them, and the new terms apply from that date.
