How This Works
The Plain Bible is the whole King James Bible with a plain-English reading beside every verse. Nothing here needs an account, and reading never will.
Plain English First
Every verse in words you already use, with the King James beside it if you want it and out of the way if you do not. The plain reading is written rather than translated: where a 1611 word has since changed meaning it follows what the passage meant, not what the old word looks like today. In Romans 1:13 “let” means hindered, so a careless reading has Paul allowed to come to Rome when he is saying he was stopped.
Written for Four Age Groups
Every chapter is rendered for five to eight, nine to twelve, thirteen to seventeen, and adult. A younger reading carries less detail; none of them ever says something the King James does not.
Read It Your Way
Aa sets the type size, the typeface, the page color, the reading age and which texts you see, and it remembers. The speaker reads a chapter aloud, at whatever speed suits you. Tap a verse to select it, mark it in one of eight colors, share it, or start the narration from there.
Read It With Other People
Open a room and everybody in it sits on the same verse. One person leads and the rest follow them through the text, and the room moves on once the group has read it. Anyone can ask about the verse in front of them. A room can be opened with voice, and then it passes the reading around, though most rooms are read quietly and never need it.
Find Your Way In
Search finds a verse by what it says rather than where it is. Reading plans walk you through the whole Bible in a year, or the Gospels in a month. The lives follow one person from their first mention to their last.
What an Account Adds
Only these, and only if you want them. Everything else works signed out, on any device, with nothing stored anywhere but your browser.
- Highlights. Mark a verse in one of eight colors and find it again later. Yours alone: nobody can see them, including anyone you have read with.
- Your place, on every device. Stop on a phone, carry on at a desk.
- Reading together. Open a room and read a chapter with other people, everyone on the same verse.
- Kept studies. A record of a session: who was there, what you read, and what was asked.
- Your settings, everywhere. Reading age, which texts you see, type size and colors follow you.
- Your data, yours. Download everything kept about you, or delete the account and all of it, from your account page.
