1 Enoch 34

What Happens in This Chapter

Enoch travels north to the ends of the earth and sees a great and glorious made thing there. He sees three open gates in the sky, and north winds come out through each of them, bringing cold, hail, frost, snow, dew, and rain. One gate sends its wind for good; the winds from the other two come with violence and trouble on the earth.

From there I traveled toward the north, to the ends of the earth, and there I saw a great and glorious thing that had been made, at the ends of the whole earth.

1And from thence I went towards the north to the ends of the earth, and there I saw a great and glorious device at the ends of the whole earth.

"Device" in older English means something that has been designed and built, not a trick or a plan.

2And here I saw three gates of the sky standing open in the sky. North winds come out through each of them, and when they blow there is cold, hail, frost, snow, dew, and rain.

2And here I saw three portals of heaven open in the heaven: through each of them proceed north winds: when they blow there is cold, hail, frost, snow, dew, and rain.

3Out of one gate the winds blow for good. But when they blow through the other two gates, it is with violence and suffering on the earth, and they blow with force.

3And out of one portal they blow for good: but when they blow through the other two portals, †it is with violence and affliction on the earth, and they blow with violence.†
