1 Enoch 33
What Happens in This Chapter
Enoch travels to the ends of the earth and sees great beasts, each one different from the others, and birds that differ in appearance, beauty, and voice. To the east of those beasts he sees the ends of the earth where the sky rests, and the gates of the sky standing open. He counts the gates the stars come out of and records each star's number, name, course, position, time, and month, as the angel Uriel shows him.
From there I went on to the ends of the earth. There I saw great beasts, and each one was different from the others. I also saw birds that were different from one another in how they looked, how beautiful they were, and how they sounded.
1And from thence I went to the ends of the earth and saw there great beasts, and each differed from the other; and (I saw) birds also differing in appearance and beauty and voice, the one differing from the other.
2East of those beasts I saw the ends of the earth, the place where the sky rests. I saw the gates of the sky standing open.
2And to the east of those beasts I saw the ends of the earth whereon the heaven rests, and the portals of the heaven open.
"Portals" means gates or doorways.
3I saw how the stars of the sky come out. I counted the gates they come out of, and I wrote down all the openings they come from. I did this for each star one at a time: its number and its name, the path it travels and where it stands, the times it appears and its months. Uriel, the holy angel who was with me, showed me all this.
3And I saw how the stars of heaven come forth, and I counted the portals out of which they proceed, and wrote down all their outlets, of each individual star by itself, according to their number and their names, their courses and their positions, and their times and their months, as Uriel the holy angel who was with me showed me.
"Outlets" means the openings the stars come out through.
4He showed me everything and wrote it down for me. He also wrote down their names for me, and the rules they follow, and the groups they belong to.
4He showed all things to me and wrote them down for me: also their names he wrote for me, and their laws and their companies.
