Psalms 112
What Happens in This Chapter
This psalm describes the person who loves God and obeys him. It tells what happens in that person's life: their family does well, they are kind, they lend to others, and they give to the poor. They are not afraid when bad news comes, because they trust God. The psalm ends by saying that people who choose evil will not get what they want.

Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.
1Praise the LORD! God is good to the person who respects him. That person is happy to do what God says.
2His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed.
2His children and grandchildren will be strong in the land. Good families like his will do well.
3Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth for ever.
3There is plenty of money and good things in his house. The right things he does will last forever.
4Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.
4When life gets dark, light shines for people who do right. Such a person is kind, caring, and fair.
5A good man sheweth favour, and lendeth: he will guide his affairs with discretion.
5Things go well for the man who gives and lends to others. He handles his business in a fair way.
6Surely he shall not be moved for ever: the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance.
6Nothing will knock him down. People will remember a good man for a very long time.
7He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD.
7He is not afraid when he hears bad news. His heart is steady, because he trusts the LORD.
8His heart is established, he shall not be afraid, until he see his desire upon his enemies.
8His heart is calm and he is not afraid. In the end he will see that his enemies did not win.
9He hath dispersed, he hath given to the poor; his righteousness endureth for ever; his horn shall be exalted with honour.
9He shares freely and gives to poor people. The right things he does will last forever. He will be lifted up and honored.
"His horn shall be exalted" is a picture from farm animals. A raised horn meant strength and honor.
10The wicked shall see it, and be grieved; he shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away: the desire of the wicked shall perish.
10People who do evil will see this and be upset. They will grind their teeth in anger and fade away. What evil people want will never happen.
