Chapter 113
This short psalm calls the servants of the LORD to praise his name always and everywhere, from sunrise to sunset. It says the LORD is higher than all nations and above the heavens, yet he stoops down to look at heaven and earth. It then names what he does: he lifts poor and needy people out of the dirt and seats them with princes, and gives the childless woman a home and children.
Plain reading written for preteens. Clear and complete, at about a fifth grade reading level.
Praise ye the LORD. Praise, O ye servants of the LORD, praise the name of the LORD.
1Praise the LORD! Praise him, all you who serve him. Praise the name of the LORD.
2Blessed be the name of the LORD from this time forth and for evermore.
2May the name of the LORD be blessed from now on and forever.
3From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD’s name is to be praised.
3From where the sun comes up to where it goes down, the name of the LORD should be praised.
4The LORD is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens.
4The LORD is higher than all the nations, and his glory is higher than the skies.
5Who is like unto the LORD our God, who dwelleth on high,
5Who is like the LORD our God? He is seated high above everything,
6Who humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth!
6yet he bends down low to look at what is in the heavens and on the earth.
7He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill;
7He lifts the poor person up out of the dust. He raises the needy person out of the ash heap,
A "dunghill" was the heap of ashes and trash outside a town, where the poorest people sat and looked for scraps.
8That he may set him with princes, even with the princes of his people.
8and seats him with princes, with the princes of his own people.
9He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the LORD.
9He gives the woman who had no children a home, and makes her a happy mother of children. Praise the LORD!
"To keep house" means to be settled at home with a family of her own, not to do housework.
