Chapter 12
This short chapter is a song of thanks that the people will sing after God rescues them. The singer thanks God for turning away his anger and giving comfort. The song then calls everyone to praise God out loud, to tell other nations what he has done, and to shout for joy because the Holy One of Israel is living among them in Zion.
Plain reading written for preteens. Clear and complete, at about a fifth grade reading level.
And in that day thou shalt say, O LORD, I will praise thee: though thou wast angry with me, thine anger is turned away, and thou comfortedst me.
1When that day comes, you will say: "LORD, I will praise you. You were angry with me, but your anger is gone, and you have comforted me.
2Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.
2Look, God is the one who saves me. I will trust him and not be afraid. The LORD God is my strength and my song. He is the one who saved me."
3Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation.
3So you will draw water with joy from the springs that bring rescue.
"Wells of salvation" pictures water drawn from a deep spring. In a dry land, that water meant life, so it stands here for the rescue God gives.
4And in that day shall ye say, Praise the LORD, call upon his name, declare his doings among the people, make mention that his name is exalted.
4When that day comes, you will say: "Thank the LORD! Call on his name! Tell the nations what he has done. Say that his name is great.
5Sing unto the LORD; for he hath done excellent things: this is known in all the earth.
5Sing to the LORD, because he has done wonderful things. Let the whole earth know it.
6Cry out and shout, thou inhabitant of Zion: for great is the Holy One of Israel in the midst of thee.
6Cry out and sing, you people who live in Zion. The Holy One of Israel is great, and he is right here among you."
