1 Enoch 29
What Happens in This Chapter
The speaker moves on from where he was to another place in the desert, coming to the east of the mountain range. There he sees sweet-smelling trees that give off the scent of frankincense and myrrh, and the trees look like almond trees. The chapter is one short stop in a series of places the speaker travels to and describes.
From there I went on to another place in the desert, and I came close to the east side of this range of mountains.
1And thence I went to another place in the desert, and approached to the east of this mountain range.
2There I saw sweet-smelling trees breathing out the scent of frankincense and myrrh, and these trees also looked like the almond tree.
2And there I saw aromatic trees exhaling the fragrance of frankincense and myrrh, and the trees also were similar to the almond tree.
Frankincense and myrrh are sticky sap that oozes from certain trees and hardens. Both were burned or worn for their strong, sweet smell, and both were costly.
