Revelation 19

And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God:

1After this I heard a loud sound in heaven. It was like a huge crowd shouting together. They said, "Hallelujah! Rescue and glory and power belong to our God!"

NoteThe KJV word "Alleluia" is the Hebrew word we usually spell "Hallelujah." It means "Praise the Lord."

2For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand.

2"The way God judges is true and fair. He has judged the great woman who did wrong. She pulled the whole earth into her sin. She spilled the blood of God's servants. Now God has paid her back."

3And again they said, Alleluia. And her smoke rose up for ever and ever.

3They said it again: "Hallelujah!" And the smoke from her fire goes up forever and ever.

4And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia.

4The twenty-four leaders and the four living creatures bowed down low. They worshiped God, who sits on the throne. They said, "Amen! Hallelujah!"

NoteThe KJV calls them "beasts," but that does not mean wild animals. It means the four living creatures around God's throne.

5And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great.

5Then a voice came from the throne. It said, "Praise our God, all of you who serve him. Praise him, all of you who honor him, small and great."

6And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.

6Then I heard a sound like a huge crowd. It was like rushing water and loud thunder. They said, "Hallelujah! The Lord our God is King. He can do anything."

7Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.

7"Let us be glad and happy. Let us give him honor. The time for the Lamb's wedding has come. His bride has made herself ready."

Note"The Lamb" is a name this book uses for Jesus.

8And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.

8She was given fine linen cloth to wear. It was clean and bright white. That fine linen means the right things God's people did.

9And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.

9Then he said to me, "Write this down. How happy are the people who are asked to come to the Lamb's wedding dinner!" He also said, "These are the true words of God."

10And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

10I fell down at his feet to worship him. But he said, "Do not do that! I serve God, just like you do. I serve God like your brothers and sisters who hold on to what Jesus said. Worship God! What Jesus said is the heart of every message from God."

11And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.

11Then I saw heaven open up. A white horse stood there. The one riding it is called Faithful and True. He judges and fights in a fair and right way.

12His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.

12His eyes were like flames of fire. He had many crowns on his head. A name was written on him. Only he knows what that name means.

13And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.

13He wore a robe that had been dipped in blood. His name is The Word of God.

14And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.

14The armies of heaven followed him, riding white horses. They wore fine linen that was white and clean.

15And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

15A sharp sword comes out of his mouth. He will strike the nations with it. He will rule them with an iron rod. He stomps the grapes in the winepress of God's burning anger. A winepress is a big tub where grapes are crushed.

16And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

16A name is written on his robe and on his leg. It says: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

17And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God;

17Then I saw an angel standing in the sun. He shouted to all the birds flying in the sky. He said, "Come here. Gather together for the great supper of God."

18That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great.

18"You will eat the bodies of kings and army leaders and strong men. You will eat horses and their riders. You will eat all people, slave and free, small and great."

19And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army.

19Then I saw the beast, the terrible animal from earlier in this book. The kings of the earth and their armies were with him. They had come to fight the rider on the horse and his army.

20And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

20The beast was caught. The false prophet was caught with him. That false prophet had done wonders to fool people. He fooled the ones who took the beast's mark. He fooled the ones who worshiped the beast's statue. Both of them were thrown alive into a lake of burning fire.

NoteThe KJV says the lake burned with "brimstone." Brimstone is an old word for sulfur, a yellow rock that burns with a strong smell.

21And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.

21The rest were killed by the sword that comes from the rider's mouth. And all the birds ate their fill of the bodies.
