Revelation 16

And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.

1I heard a loud voice from the temple. It said to the seven angels, "Go and pour out the seven bowls of God's anger on the earth."

NoteThe KJV says "vials." These are wide, shallow bowls, not small bottles.

2And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image.

2The first angel went and poured his bowl on the earth. Ugly, painful sores broke out on people. These were the people who had the beast's mark and worshiped its statue.

3And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea.

3The second angel poured his bowl into the sea. The sea turned to blood, like blood from a dead body. Every living thing in the sea died.

4And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of waters; and they became blood.

4The third angel poured his bowl into the rivers and springs. They turned to blood too.

5And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because thou hast judged thus.

5I heard the angel who is over the waters speak. He said, "You are right and fair, Holy One. You are here now, and you were here before. You have judged the right way.

6For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy.

6These people killed your holy people and your prophets, who told others what God said. Now you have given them blood to drink. That is what they deserve."

7And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.

7Then I heard a voice from the altar say, "Yes, Lord God Almighty. Everything you decide is true and fair."

8And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire.

8The fourth angel poured his bowl on the sun. The sun was allowed to burn people with its fire.

9And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.

9The heat was terrible, and people were burned. They said bad things against God's name, because he had power over these troubles. Still they would not turn from their wrong or honor him.

10And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain,

10The fifth angel poured his bowl on the beast's throne. Darkness covered the beast's kingdom. People bit their tongues because they hurt so much.

11And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.

11They said bad things against the God of heaven because of their pain and their sores. Still they would not turn away from the wrong they were doing.

12And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared.

12The sixth angel poured his bowl on the great river Euphrates. The water dried up. Now the kings from the east had a path to walk across.

13And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.

13Then I saw three dirty spirits that looked like frogs. They came out of the mouth of the dragon, the mouth of the beast, and the mouth of the false prophet.

Note"Unclean" here means dirty or not fit to come near God. It is not about germs.

14For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.

14These are evil spirits, and they do wonders that look like miracles. They go to all the kings of the world. They gather the kings for battle on the great day of God Almighty.

15Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.

15"Listen. I am coming without warning, like a robber in the night. Happy is the one who stays awake and keeps his clothes on. Then he will not walk around bare and ashamed."

16And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.

16The spirits gathered the kings in a place called Armageddon in the Hebrew language.

17And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done.

17The seventh angel poured his bowl into the air. A loud voice came from the throne in the temple. It said, "It is done!"

18And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great.

18There were flashes of lightning, rumbling, and loud thunder. A huge earthquake shook the ground. No earthquake that strong had ever happened since people lived on the earth.

19And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.

19The great city broke into three parts. Cities all over the world fell down. God remembered great Babylon and gave her the cup of his burning anger.

20And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found.

20Every island disappeared. No mountain could be found anymore.

21And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.

21Huge hailstones fell on people from the sky. Each one weighed about a hundred pounds. People said bad things against God because the hail was so terrible.

NoteThe KJV says each hailstone weighed "a talent." A talent was an old weight of about a hundred pounds.
