Revelation 14

And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father’s name written in their foreheads.

1Then I looked. I saw the Lamb standing on Mount Zion, a hill in Jerusalem. With him were 144,000 people. His Father's name was written on their foreheads.

2And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps:

2I heard a sound from heaven. It was loud, like rushing water and rolling thunder. It also sounded like people playing harps.

3And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.

3They sang a new song in front of God's throne. The four living creatures and the elders were there too. No one could learn that song except the 144,000. God had bought these people back from the earth.

NoteThe KJV word "beasts" here does not mean wild animals. It means the four living creatures who stand near God's throne.

4These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.

4These are the ones who kept themselves pure and had not been with women. They follow the Lamb everywhere he goes. God bought them back from among all people. They were given to God and to the Lamb first, like the first part of a harvest.

5And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God.

5They never told a lie. They stand in front of God's throne with nothing wrong in them.

6And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,

6Then I saw another angel flying high in the sky. He carried the good news that lasts forever. He was to tell it to everyone living on earth. He would tell every nation, family, language, and people.

7Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.

7He said in a loud voice, "Respect God and honor him. The time for him to judge has come. Worship the one who made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and the springs of water."

8And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.

8Then a second angel came. He said, "Babylon the great city has fallen. She has fallen. She made every nation drink the wine of her wrong and sinful ways."

9And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,

9A third angel came after them. He called out in a loud voice about anyone who worships the beast and its statue. He spoke about anyone who takes the beast's mark on the forehead or the hand.

10The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:

10That person will drink the wine of God's anger. It is poured into God's cup at full strength, with no water added. He will be hurt by fire and burning sulfur. This will happen in front of the holy angels and the Lamb.

Note"Without mixture" means the wine has no water added to make it weaker. "Brimstone" is sulfur, a yellow rock that burns.

11And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

11The smoke of their pain goes up forever and ever. They have no rest, day or night. This is for those who worship the beast and its statue. It is also for anyone who takes the mark of its name.

12Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

12So God's people must keep waiting patiently. They obey God's commands and stay faithful to Jesus.

13And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.

13Then I heard a voice from heaven. It said, "Write this down. From now on, the people who die belonging to the Lord are happy." "Yes," says the Spirit. "They can rest from their hard work. The good they did goes with them."

14And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle.

14Then I looked and saw a white cloud. Someone was sitting on the cloud who looked like the Son of Man. He wore a gold crown. In his hand he held a sharp sickle, a curved knife for cutting crops.

15And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe.

15Another angel came out of the temple. He shouted to the one sitting on the cloud. "Swing your sickle and cut. The time to gather the crops has come. The crop of the earth is ripe."

16And he that sat on the cloud thrust in his sickle on the earth; and the earth was reaped.

16So the one sitting on the cloud swung his sickle over the earth. The crop of the earth was cut and gathered.

17And another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle.

17Then another angel came out of the temple in heaven. He also had a sharp sickle.

18And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe.

18Another angel came from the altar. He was in charge of the fire. He shouted to the angel with the sharp sickle. "Swing your sickle. Cut the bunches of grapes from the earth's vine. The grapes are ripe."

19And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God.

19So the angel swung his sickle over the earth. He gathered its grapes. He threw them into the great winepress of God's anger. A winepress is a big tub where grapes are squeezed.

20And the winepress was trodden without the city, and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horse bridles, by the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs.

20The grapes were stomped in the winepress outside the city. Blood came out of the winepress. It rose as high as the straps on a horse's head. It spread out for about 180 miles.

NoteThe KJV says "a thousand and six hundred furlongs." A furlong here is a Greek stadium, about 200 yards. That comes to roughly 180 miles, or 300 kilometers.
