Psalms 98
What Happens in This Chapter
This psalm calls people to sing a new song to God because He has won a victory and saved His people. The whole world has seen what God has done. The psalm invites everyone, and even the sea, rivers, and hills, to make happy noise because God is coming to judge the earth fairly.

O sing unto the LORD a new song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory.
1Sing a new song to the LORD. He has done wonderful things. His strong right hand and holy arm have won the victory.
2The LORD hath made known his salvation: his righteousness hath he openly shewed in the sight of the heathen.
2The LORD has shown everyone how He saves. He let all the nations see that He does what is right.
3He hath remembered his mercy and his truth toward the house of Israel: all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.
3He remembered His love and kept His promises to the people of Israel. People everywhere, all over the earth, have seen how our God saves.
4Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.
4Shout for joy to the LORD, everyone on earth. Call out loud, be glad, and sing songs of praise.
5Sing unto the LORD with the harp; with the harp, and the voice of a psalm.
5Sing to the LORD with a harp. Play the harp and sing a happy song.
6With trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise before the LORD, the King.
6Blow the trumpets and the ram's horn. Shout for joy to the LORD, the King.
The KJV word "cornet" means a horn made from a ram's horn, not a modern brass cornet.
7Let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.
7Let the sea roar, and everything in it. Let the whole world and all who live in it join in.
8Let the floods clap their hands: let the hills be joyful together
8Let the rivers clap their hands. Let the hills sing for joy together.
"Floods" here means rivers and streams, not a dangerous flood.
9Before the LORD; for he cometh to judge the earth: with righteousness shall he judge the world, and the people with equity.
9Let them sing before the LORD, because He is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world in the right way. He will treat all people fairly.
