Psalms 128
What Happens in This Chapter
This short psalm describes the good life of someone who honors God and follows his ways. It pictures a family at home: food from a person's own work, a wife and children around the table, and grandchildren later on. It ends by asking God to bless the person from Zion and to give peace to Israel.

Blessed is every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways.
1God is good to everyone who honors him. He is good to those who live his way.
"Fears the LORD" in old English means to honor God and treat him with deep respect. It does not mean being scared of him.
2For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee.
2You will eat the food your own hands worked for. You will be happy. Things will go well for you.
3Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table.
3Your wife will be like a healthy grapevine inside your home. Your children will sit around your table like young olive trees.
4Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the LORD.
4Look, this is how God blesses the person who honors him.
5The LORD shall bless thee out of Zion: and thou shalt see the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life.
5May God bless you from Zion, the hill where his temple stands. May you see Jerusalem do well your whole life.
6Yea, thou shalt see thy children’s children, and peace upon Israel.
6May you live to see your children's children. May there be peace for Israel.
