Psalms 113
What Happens in This Chapter
This short psalm calls God's servants to praise the LORD. It says his name should be praised everywhere, all day and forever. It also says that God, who is far above everything, bends down to look at the world. He lifts poor people out of the dirt and gives a woman without children a happy home.

Praise ye the LORD. Praise, O ye servants of the LORD, praise the name of the LORD.
1Praise the LORD! You who serve the LORD, praise him. Praise his name.
2Blessed be the name of the LORD from this time forth and for evermore.
2May the LORD's name be blessed now and forever.
3From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD’s name is to be praised.
3From the place where the sun comes up to the place where it goes down, people praise the LORD's name.
4The LORD is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens.
4The LORD is higher than all the nations. His glory is higher than the heavens.
5Who is like unto the LORD our God, who dwelleth on high,
5Who is like the LORD our God? He sits on a throne high above everything.
6Who humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth!
6He bends down low to look at the heavens and at the earth.
7He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill;
7He lifts poor people up out of the dust. He picks up people who have nothing from the ash heap.
The KJV says "dunghill." In Bible times this was the trash and ash pile outside a town, where the poorest people sometimes had to live.
8That he may set him with princes, even with the princes of his people.
8He sets them beside princes, the leaders of his own people.
9He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the LORD.
9He gives a woman with no children a home. He makes her a happy mother of children. Praise the LORD!
