Genesis 30:19-20

Leah Bears Zebulun, Her Sixth Son

19Leah was going to have another baby. She had a sixth son for Jacob.

And Leah conceived again, and bare Jacob the sixth son.

20Leah said, "God has given me a good gift. Now my husband will live with me, because I have given him six sons." She named him Zebulun.

And Leah said, God hath endued me with a good dowry; now will my husband dwell with me, because I have born him six sons: and she called his name Zebulun.

"Zebulun" sounds like a Hebrew word for living together with someone.

Genesis 49:13

Jacob Blesses Zebulun to Dwell by the Sea

13"Zebulun will live where ships come in from the sea. He will be a safe place for ships. His land will reach to Zidon."

Zebulun shall dwell at the haven of the sea; and he shall be for an haven of ships; and his border shall be unto Zidon.

Zidon was a busy city by the sea. Today we spell the name Sidon.

Deuteronomy 33:18-19

Moses Blesses Zebulun in His Going Out

18About Zebulun he said: "Be glad, Zebulun, when you travel out. Be glad, Issachar, at home in your tents."

And of Zebulun he said, Rejoice, Zebulun, in thy going out; and, Issachar, in thy tents.

Zebulun and Issachar were two more sons of Jacob. Zebulun's people traveled and traded far away. Issachar's people stayed home and farmed.

19"They will call the peoples to the mountain. There they will give the right offerings. They will grow rich from the sea and from treasure hidden in the sand."

They shall call the people unto the mountain; there they shall offer sacrifices of righteousness: for they shall suck of the abundance of the seas, and of treasures hid in the sand.

An offering is a gift given to God. Treasure hidden in the sand may mean shells and sand from the beach. People made purple dye and glass from them.

Every passage here is the King James text. Nothing on this page retells the story; it only puts the pieces in order.
