Ezekiel 48:8-12

Holy Portion Assigned to Zadok's Sons

8And by the border of Judah, from the east side unto the west side, shall be the offering which ye shall offer of five and twenty thousand reeds in breadth, and in length as one of the other parts, from the east side unto the west side: and the sanctuary shall be in the midst of it.

Next to Judah's land is a strip you must set apart for God. It runs from east to west, like the others. It is 25,000 cubits wide. It is as long as one tribe's strip. In the middle of it stands the temple, the holy house where God is worshiped.

9The oblation that ye shall offer unto the LORD shall be of five and twenty thousand in length, and of ten thousand in breadth.

The part you set apart for the LORD will be 25,000 cubits long. It will be 10,000 cubits wide.

10And for them, even for the priests, shall be this holy oblation; toward the north five and twenty thousand in length, and toward the west ten thousand in breadth, and toward the east ten thousand in breadth, and toward the south five and twenty thousand in length: and the sanctuary of the LORD shall be in the midst thereof.

This holy piece belongs to the priests, the men who serve God at the temple. Its north side is 25,000 cubits long. Its west side is 10,000 cubits wide. Its east side is 10,000 cubits wide. Its south side is 25,000 cubits long. The LORD's temple stands right in the middle of it.

11It shall be for the priests that are sanctified of the sons of Zadok; which have kept my charge, which went not astray when the children of Israel went astray, as the Levites went astray.

This land is for the priests who were chosen for God's work. They come from the family of Zadok. They kept doing what God told them. They did not wander away when the people of Israel wandered away. The Levites did wander away.

12And this oblation of the land that is offered shall be unto them a thing most holy by the border of the Levites.

This piece of land is a special gift for the priests. It is the most holy part of the land. It lies right beside the land of the Levites, the men who helped at the temple.

Every passage here is the King James text. Nothing on this page retells the story; it only puts the pieces in order.
