The Waters of Noah Recalled as an Oath
9For this is as the waters of Noah unto me: for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth; so have I sworn that I would not be wroth with thee, nor rebuke thee.
To me this is like the days of Noah. I promised that Noah's flood would never cover the earth again. In the same way, I have promised not to be angry with you or scold you.
10For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee.
The mountains may go away. The hills may be shaken loose. But my kindness will never leave you. My promise to give you peace will not be broken. The LORD who loves you says this.
Noah, Daniel and Job Could Save Only Themselves
12The word of the LORD came again to me, saying,
The LORD spoke to me again. He said:
13Son of man, when the land sinneth against me by trespassing grievously, then will I stretch out mine hand upon it, and will break the staff of the bread thereof, and will send famine upon it, and will cut off man and beast from it:
"Son of man, suppose a land sins against Me and is very unfaithful. Then I will reach out My hand against it. I will take away its supply of bread. I will send hunger there. I will cut off both people and animals.
14Though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they should deliver but their own souls by their righteousness, saith the Lord GOD.
Even if these three men lived there, it would not change this. Noah, Daniel, and Job did what was right. But their good lives would save only themselves, says the Lord GOD.
15If I cause noisome beasts to pass through the land, and they spoil it, so that it be desolate, that no man may pass through because of the beasts:
Or suppose I send wild animals through the land. They hurt it and leave it empty. No one can even walk through, because of the animals.
16Though these three men were in it, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither sons nor daughters; they only shall be delivered, but the land shall be desolate.
As surely as I live, says the Lord GOD, even if these three men lived there, they could not save their own sons or daughters. Only they would be saved. The land would still be empty.
17Or if I bring a sword upon that land, and say, Sword, go through the land; so that I cut off man and beast from it:
Or suppose I bring war on that land. I say, 'Let the sword go through the land.' So I cut off both people and animals.
18Though these three men were in it, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither sons nor daughters, but they only shall be delivered themselves.
As surely as I live, says the Lord GOD, even if these three men lived there, they could not save their own sons or daughters. Only they would be saved.
19Or if I send a pestilence into that land, and pour out my fury upon it in blood, to cut off from it man and beast:
Or suppose I send a deadly sickness into that land. I pour out My anger there, and blood is spilled. I cut off both people and animals.
20Though Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall but deliver their own souls by their righteousness.
As surely as I live, says the Lord GOD, even if Noah, Daniel, and Job lived there, they could not save their own son or daughter. Their good lives would save only themselves.
As the Days of Noe Were
36But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
No one knows the day or the hour when this will happen. The angels in heaven do not know. Only my Father knows.
37But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
It was a certain way in the days of Noah. It will be like that when the Son of Man comes.
38For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
Before the big flood, people were eating and drinking. They were getting married. They kept doing this until the day Noah went into the boat.
39And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
They did not know what was coming. Then the flood came and swept them all away. It will be like that when the Son of Man comes.
The Day Noe Entered the Ark
26And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.
"The days of the Son of Man will be like the days of Noah."
27They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.
"People ate and drank. They got married. They kept on until the day Noah went into the big boat. Then the flood came and destroyed them all."
28Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;
"It was the same in the days of Lot. People ate and drank. They bought and sold. They planted and built."
29But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.
"But on the day Lot left the city of Sodom, fire and burning sulfur rained down from the sky. It destroyed them all."
30Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.
"That is how it will be on the day the Son of Man is shown to everyone."
By Faith Noah Prepared an Ark
7By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.
