Balaam

12And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write; These things saith he which hath the sharp sword with two edges;

To the angel of the church in Pergamos, write this. These are the words of the one who has the sharp sword with two edges.

13I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan’s seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth.

I know where you live: the place where Satan's throne stands. Still you hold on to my name. You did not turn away from trusting me, not even when Antipas was killed among you, there where Satan lives. He was my faithful witness.

14But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.

But I have a few things against you. Some of you follow the teaching of Balaam, who showed Balak how to trip up the people of Israel. He led them to eat food that had been offered to idols and to have sex outside of marriage.

15So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitanes, which thing I hate.

In the same way, some of you follow the teaching of the Nicolaitans, and I hate that teaching.

16Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

So turn back. If you do not, I will come to you soon and fight against those people with the sword that comes from my mouth.
