The First Man of the Earth, Earthy
45The holy writings say it this way. The first man, Adam, became a living person. The last Adam became a spirit who gives life.
And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.
The holy writings say God made Adam a living person. Paul calls Jesus "the last Adam." "Quickening" means giving life.
46The spiritual did not come first. The natural came first. The spiritual came after.
Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.
47The first man came from the dust of the earth. The second man came from heaven.
The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.
The Bible's first story says God made the first man out of dust.
48People made of dust are like that first man. People who belong to heaven are like the man from heaven.
As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.
49We have looked like the man made of dust. We will also look like the man from heaven.
And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.
Formed First, and Not Deceived
13God made Adam first. After that, God made Eve.
For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
Adam and Eve were the first man and the first woman. Their story is at the very start of the Bible.
14Adam was not tricked. The woman was tricked, and she did what was wrong.
And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
In that story a snake tricked Eve into disobeying God. "Transgression" is an old word for breaking a rule.
