Abdon Judges Israel Eight Years and Dies
13After him, Abdon son of Hillel led Israel. He came from the town of Pirathon.
And after him Abdon the son of Hillel, a Pirathonite, judged Israel.
14He had forty sons and thirty grandsons. They rode on seventy young donkeys. He led Israel for eight years.
And he had forty sons and thirty nephews, that rode on threescore and ten ass colts: and he judged Israel eight years.
The King James Version says "nephews," but that old word meant grandsons. Donkeys cost a lot of money. A family with seventy donkeys was rich and important.
15Then Abdon son of Hillel from Pirathon died. He was buried in Pirathon, in the land of Ephraim, up in the hills where the Amalekites lived.
And Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite died, and was buried in Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the mount of the Amalekites.
The Amalekites were a desert people who often fought Israel. These hills were named after them.
Every passage here is the King James text. Nothing on this page retells the story; it only puts the pieces in order.
