And it came to pass on the day that Moses had fully set up the tabernacle, and had anointed it, and sanctified it, and all the instruments thereof, both the altar and all the vessels thereof, and had anointed them, and sanctified them;

1Moses finished putting up the tabernacle. That was the special tent for worshiping God. He poured oil on it to set it apart for God. He did the same with everything inside it. He also did this with the altar and all its tools.

2That the princes of Israel, heads of the house of their fathers, who were the princes of the tribes, and were over them that were numbered, offered:

2Then the leaders of Israel brought gifts. They were the heads of their families. They were the leaders of the twelve tribes. They had helped count the people.

3And they brought their offering before the LORD, six covered wagons, and twelve oxen; a wagon for two of the princes, and for each one an ox: and they brought them before the tabernacle.

4And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

NoteA shekel is a small weight, about half an ounce. The King James Bible calls the big plate a "charger," which meant a large serving dish, not anything to do with electricity. It also calls the flour gift a "meat offering." In 1611 the word "meat" meant any kind of food, so this gift was grain, not meat.

14One spoon of ten shekels of gold, full of incense:

84This was the dedication of the altar, in the day when it was anointed, by the princes of Israel: twelve chargers of silver, twelve silver bowls, twelve spoons of gold:

84These were the gifts from the leaders of Israel. They gave them on the day the altar was set apart with oil. There were twelve silver plates, twelve silver bowls, and twelve gold dishes.

85Each charger of silver weighing an hundred and thirty shekels, each bowl seventy: all the silver vessels weighed two thousand and four hundred shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary:

85Each silver plate weighed 130 shekels. Each silver bowl weighed 70 shekels. All the silver together weighed 2,400 shekels.

86The golden spoons were twelve, full of incense, weighing ten shekels apiece, after the shekel of the sanctuary: all the gold of the spoons was an hundred and twenty shekels.

86There were twelve gold dishes full of incense. Each one weighed 10 shekels. All the gold together weighed 120 shekels.

87All the oxen for the burnt offering were twelve bullocks, the rams twelve, the lambs of the first year twelve, with their meat offering: and the kids of the goats for sin offering twelve.

87For the burnt offerings there were twelve bulls and twelve rams. There were also twelve lambs a year old, with their gifts of grain. And there were twelve male goats for the sin offering.

88And all the oxen for the sacrifice of the peace offerings were twenty and four bullocks, the rams sixty, the he goats sixty, the lambs of the first year sixty. This was the dedication of the altar, after that it was anointed.

88For the peace offerings there were 24 bulls and 60 rams. There were also 60 male goats and 60 lambs a year old. All this set the altar apart after it was rubbed with oil.

89And when Moses was gone into the tabernacle of the congregation to speak with him, then he heard the voice of one speaking unto him from off the mercy seat that was upon the ark of testimony, from between the two cherubims: and he spake unto him.

89Moses went inside the tent to talk with God. He heard a voice speaking to him. It came from above the gold lid on the ark. The voice came from between the two gold cherubim. That is how God spoke to Moses.

NoteThe ark was a gold-covered box that held the stone tablets God gave Moses. Its lid is called the "mercy seat." The cherubim were two winged figures made of gold that stood on top of the lid.
