Lamentations

Five poems mourning Jerusalem after Babylon took the city and carried its people away. The poems describe the emptied streets, the wrecked temple, the hunger inside the walls, and they say the LORD himself did this because the people rebelled. In the middle a man speaks of God's mercies being new every morning; the last poem is a prayer asking God to look, and to bring the people back, and it ends without an answer.
