And the second lot came forth to Simeon, even for the tribe of the children of Simeon according to their families: and their inheritance was within the inheritance of the children of Judah.
1The second lot was drawn for the tribe, or big family group, of Simeon. Their land was inside the land already given to Judah.
A "lot" was like drawing straws or rolling dice. The people believed God guided which share each tribe got.
2And they had in their inheritance Beersheba, and Sheba, and Moladah,
2Their towns were Beersheba (also called Sheba) and Moladah.

7They also had Ain, Remmon, Ether, and Ashan. That was four more towns and their villages.
8And all the villages that were round about these cities to Baalathbeer, Ramath of the south. This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Simeon according to their families.
8They also got all the villages around these towns, as far as Baalathbeer, also called Ramath in the south. This was the land of Simeon's tribe, shared out family by family.
"Inheritance" here means the land a family is given to keep and pass down to their children.
9Out of the portion of the children of Judah was the inheritance of the children of Simeon: for the part of the children of Judah was too much for them: therefore the children of Simeon had their inheritance within the inheritance of them.
9Simeon's land came out of Judah's share. Judah had been given more land than they needed. So Simeon got their land inside Judah's land.

47Dan's land was not big enough for them. So the people of Dan went up and fought the town of Leshem. They took it and killed the people there with swords. Then they lived in it and called it Dan, after Dan, the father of their family.

49When they had made an end of dividing the land for inheritance by their coasts, the children of Israel gave an inheritance to Joshua the son of Nun among them:
49When they had finished dividing the land into shares, the people of Israel gave Joshua son of Nun a share too.
50According to the word of the LORD they gave him the city which he asked, even Timnathserah in mount Ephraim: and he built the city, and dwelt therein.
50The LORD had said to do this. So they gave him the town he asked for, Timnathserah, in the hills of Ephraim. Joshua built up the town and lived there.
51These are the inheritances, which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel, divided for an inheritance by lot in Shiloh before the LORD, at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. So they made an end of dividing the country.
51These are the shares of land that Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the family leaders of Israel handed out. They did it by drawing lots at Shiloh, before the LORD, at the door of the tent where the people met with God. So the work of dividing the land was done.
