Chapter 25
Bildad the Shuhite gives his last and shortest speech. He says God rules over everything and has countless armies, and that God keeps order in the heavens. Then he asks how any person born of a woman could ever be counted as right or clean before God. Even the moon and stars are not bright or pure next to God, so a human being is far less.
Plain reading written for preteens. Clear and complete, at about a fifth grade reading level.
Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,
1Then Bildad, who came from the land of Shuah, answered Job. He said:
2Dominion and fear are with him, he maketh peace in his high places.
2God rules over all, and people stand in awe of him. He keeps peace in the high heavens.
3Is there any number of his armies? and upon whom doth not his light arise?
3Can anyone count God's armies? Is there anyone his light does not shine on?
4How then can man be justified with God? or how can he be clean that is born of a woman?
4So how can a person be counted as right in front of God? How can anyone born be clean?
"Justified" here means declared to be in the right. "Born of a woman" is simply a way of saying any human being.
5Behold even to the moon, and it shineth not; yea, the stars are not pure in his sight.
5Look, even the moon is not bright next to God. Even the stars are not pure when he looks at them.
6How much less man, that is a worm? and the son of man, which is a worm?
6So how much less is a human being, who is only a worm? A person is just a worm.
The word for "worm" in the first half of this verse means a maggot. Bildad is saying people are small and weak compared to God.
