Jeremiah

The words of Jeremiah, a priest's son who spoke for the LORD in Jerusalem's last years, through the reigns of Josiah, Jehoiakim, and Zedekiah, until the city fell to Babylon. Poems of warning about an army from the north sit next to acted-out signs (a ruined belt, a smashed jar, a wooden yoke, a field bought during a siege) and next to the story of what happened to Jeremiah himself: beaten, jailed, lowered into a muddy cistern, and finally carried off to Egypt. Between the warnings come promises of a return from exile and a new covenant, followed by messages about the surrounding nations and a closing account of Jerusalem's fall.
