Bel and the Dragon

Two short detective stories about Daniel, set in Babylon under King Cyrus. In the first, Daniel proves that the idol Bel does not eat the food left for it, by spreading ashes on the temple floor and showing the king the footprints of the priests who come in through a secret door. In the second, Daniel kills a dragon the Babylonians worship, is thrown into a lions' den for six days, and is fed there by the prophet Habakkuk, whom an angel carries from Judea.
