Amos

The words of Amos, a herdsman from Tekoa, spoken against Israel in the days of Uzziah and Jeroboam. He starts with judgment on the nations around Israel for their cruelty in war, then turns the same speech on Israel itself: bribes at the city gate, the poor trampled, crooked scales, crowded festivals God says he will not accept. The book moves through visions of locusts, fire, a plumb line and a basket of summer fruit, a run-in with a priest who orders Amos out of the country, and closes with a promise to rebuild the fallen tent of David and plant the people back in their land.
