The story of Israel's kings from Solomon to Ahab. It opens with David old and dying and his sons fighting over the throne, follows Solomon through his wisdom, his building of the temple, his wealth and his foreign wives, and then the kingdom splits in two after his death. The rest is a run of kings in the north and the south, plus the prophet Elijah, who shuts up the rain, meets the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel, and hears a still small voice at Horeb.
